A fluted column carved from solid wood, drawn from the Doric order of classical architecture and scaled to hold a sculpture or vessel. Each piece is formed using a series of power carving and traditional hand tool techniques. Based in Philadelphia, woodworker and artist Ashley Joseph Martin crafts contemporary home goods like vessels, lighting, and sculptural objects. His unique process utilizes a combination of modern woodworking and traditional hand carving, creating subtle textures that imbue a distinct handmade quality within each piece. Integrating sculpture and function, his designs invoke both natural and architectural forms.
Height and width are made to specification. The column can stand on its own or rise from a stepped base, built in as many tiers as you like.
